 Barry Cudmore - Past Chairman
Barry Cudmore farms near Brackley Beach. He has received many honours, including the Gilbert R. Clements Award for Excellence in Sustainable Agriculture and induction into the Atlantic Agriculture Hall of Fame. He is a Past President of the PEI Federation of Agriculture and a former member of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture.
Barry's's leadership to PEI farmers has included the introduction of Environmental Farm Plans, now a common tool island producers use to manage the impact of their activity on land, water and air. He acted as a committee member on the Round Table on Resource Land Use and National Agricultural and Environment Committee, and co-ordinated the cooperation of the Eastern Canada Soil and Water Conservation Centre and the four Atlantic provinces, leading to the development of the Environmental Farm Plan Workbook. Cudmore is a founding member of Farmers Helping Farmers, a project designed to assist farmers in developing countries and that is estimated to have impacted at least 100,000 people in East Africa.
Barry has recently completed a report for the Nuffield Scholarship program. The topic of his research is to seek out sustainable solutions in moving farm commodities to branded products and reconnect consumers with producers. His studies were conducted in Europe and Australia.
